How I’m Taking Charge of My Health
This year, I have decided to take control of my health in ways I never have before. I am 25 years old, and as I notice changes to my body and stay in-tune with what’s going on in the world around me, the importance of taking care of myself increases. There are so many health concerns that are present for Americans, especially young people, and it’s our job to stay active in preventative healthcare.

I truly believe that the reason I’m on this earth is to one day, be a mother. I love children and have always believed that I will feel totally “complete” when I have little people walking around who call me “mommy.” Reproductive health is always on the forefront of my mind when thinking about my health daily, monthly, and yearly. While I recommend that everyone, both men and women, have full health screens annually, I know that’s not always feasible for everyone. Time, cost, and convenience are a few of the most used excuses when people are asked why they don’t visit the doctor for well checks regularly. One of the many ways I stay on top of my health is using Nurx once a year in between my annual visits! Nurx offers the Home HPV kit for women 25 and over – for women 25-29, it’s a great option to check your risk in between pap smears, although guidelines still recommend getting a pap smear every three years. Let me tell you a little more about it-
Nurx just introduced an at home HPV Screening Test. With just one swab taken in the privacy and convenience of your own home, you will get better insight into your risk for cervical cancer and make better decisions about your health. The test kit will check for 14 strains of HPV that have a higher risk of leading to cervical cancer. The Home HPV Screening Test is a great option for women, especially women 30 and over who are not getting a pap smear as often as they should. According to recently updated guidelines, an HPV test is an appropriate replacement for the pap smear. With Nurx, there’s no excuse!
Here’s how the kit works:
- Download the Nurx app or visit Nurx.com
- Answer a few questions about your health and we’ll ship you a kit straight to your door.
○ When you open the kit, you’ll see it includes…
■ An extra long q-tip

■ A plastic tube
■ A plastic bag
■ A sticker with a barcode
■ And a prepaid return envelope
3. Hold the swab with one hand and insert the swab just like you would with a tampon
4. Gently turn the swab in a circle against the wall of your vagina for 30 seconds.
5. Then drop the swab in the tube, and drop it in the bag.
6. Place the bag in the pre-paid envelope, and drop it in the mail!
Once your sample arrives, you’ll get your results from our medical team in just a few days! If your results are negative, this means your risk for cervical cancer is very low and do not need additional testing for another three years. If your results are positive, this does not mean you have cervical cancer. Their medical team will work closely with you to help figure out next steps!
For those without insurance, they offer the kit for only $69, shipping and processing included. If you have health insurance, in most cases the cost of the kit is covered. You will only need to pay $15 for shipping and processing.
